| The spirituality |
| Spirituality is life according to the Spirit: "He guides the Church in the way of all truth
he bestows upon her gifts, and in this way directs her
." (LG 4), and is likewise that set of characteristics which distinguish the faith journey of each Christian and of each religious movement.
The spirituality of our Institute animates and sheds light on each aspect of the charism: the consecrated life, the apostolate in the world, the "mission" among those who suffer. "Christ our Hope", the vital synopsis of our vocation, is the fulcrum for each and every facet of our life. Hope swells forth from Christ, the redeemer and savior of each person and of history. In fact, the Crucified One, He who is the focal point of all reality, is already transfigured and glorified in the Risen One, because at the moment of utmost suffering He offers His life out of love, and therefore, in death, expresses the fullness of life (cf. Heb 5:7). The spirituality of hope teaches us to look upon all persons and their contradictory aspirations with kindness and optimism, and to do so towards the world as a whole as well, loving it as the place of the presence of God ever at work with His grace. The spirituality of hope is also essential in order to be able to approach the world of suffering. The spirituality and "mission" of the Institute are deeply interwoven and complementary to one another. Aware of these values, the Institute channels the formation journey of its members in that direction, and this to the degree of feeling the need to add "Christ Our Hope" to the initial title, "Missionaries of the Infirm", in 1979. In fact, each Missionary wishes to tell the men and women of today, the men and women subject to countless forms of suffering and attracted more than ever before by the allurement of despair, that the Lord is the Word of life and the sole wellspring of Hope. |
